Hello folks! Kristel here again-- this one will be a quickie! We have some updates that definitely show the power of all of YOUR prayers! We are so thankful for all of you that read this blog. You bless us with your prayers and continued interest in Jared's healing.
Honestly, I can't believe we're halfway through 2024! I hope you are enjoying your summer and doing your best to stay cool and hydrated! This is how Jared's been dealing with the Dallas heat! Most days when he gets home from therapy, he kicks off his shoes and socks and enjoys a popsicle.
Since our last entry, we've been making good use of our weekends. Normally, we don't expect too much from Jared on the weekends, as he works really hard during the week with therapy. However, when he tells us he wants to go somewhere, WE LOAD UP THE JEEP AND ROLL OUT! A couple Wednesdays ago, we went to the Cowboys 2024 Rookie Premiere and J had a blast. Those of you who know me know where I work and this event is one of the perks of the job! #How'boutthemCowboys!
In addition to all things Dallas Cowboys, we've been going to church on Saturday afternoons too, and the best part is that this is at Jared's request!
This past week (6/26) marked another trip around the sun for me - thanking and praising God for his blessings! 552 months is a lot of months, believe me - I feel it when I get out of bed in the mornings! I don't expect much nowadays- it's just another day... But between some lovely gals at the office, and a sweet bday card from J, it ended up being a good day!
Kabrina and I also ventured out the Ft. Worth to see Justin Timberlake. One thing we Ish-gals enjoy is good music and he did NOT disappoint!

This past week, we had Jared's Family Conference at CNS and to be honest, we were a bit fearful of what his therapists would have to say. Last month's conference was concerning. Jared was not participating and often having to have max cues and assistance from his therapists to get through his sessions. I mentioned this in our last blog and asked for prayers for J and am so happy to report that GOD ANSWERED THOSE PRAYERS!! Jared's therapists reported a complete turnaround in engagement! He's not only participating, but completing requests in his sessions on his own. THE BEST PART is them sharing with Kabrina that he's answering/responding faster and correctly! There's never been doubt in our minds that all of Jared's marbles were still rolling around in that noggin of his. Now we just need to keep working with him on his response times. But first, we pause to thank all of you and God for his faithfulness!

The most important part, and the reason for this mini-update, is to let you all know that Jared has surgery on his right eyelid on Wednesday, 7/3/2024 at 11am. Once we get past this, and he is successfully able to close that eye, we'll then move into talks with the 3 ocular specialists about possible cornea replacement as long as his retina isn't damaged. So.... we ask that you join us in praying for:
A successful surgical procedure on Wednesday on his right eyelid. They're taking skin from behind his earlobe to add to his existing lid, since some was removed in his previous surgeries.
The new eyelid is able to close and function properly which will not only protect his eyeball now, but ensure that if replacement surgery is done, there will be the same level of protection.
Wisdom and direction for the medical staff that will be doing the procedure on Wednesday.
