Happy Saturday fam! Quick update on the things going on right now. As most of you know earlier this week we were waiting to hear back from Jared's insurance if they were going to approve for him to move from Baylor (Acute rehab) to Pate (post acute transitional rehab). After a couple of denials from the insurance company, and a battle between Jared's doctor here at BIR, his case manager and the insurance provider, we did it! Jared has been approved for the next step in his rehab journey!
We were planned to discharge on Friday morning from BIR to head to Pate. Well Jared and God had a different plan in mind. Friday morning about 530AM, Jared had a seizure that lasted about 5 minutes. Thank the Lord he was still at Baylor when this happened, so he could get the proper care in a hospital environment. Due to this episode, his doctor did not feel comfortable sending him out to Pate. With TBIs it is common for patients to have seizures, so they are put on anti-seizure medications. Jared had not had a seizure in the 8 months since his accident, so he had been taken off the medication upon arriving at BIR. He is now back on it, and adjusting to it over the weekend, as it makes him lethargic and sleepy. Yesterday morning he went across the street to BUMC for a CT scan, and EEG and they did some blood work to be sure everything is ok with Jared. So we are sitting put over the weekend at BIR just to be sure, and we are planning to discharge on Monday morning now to Pate.
Jared had a busy week full with walking, ADL (activities of daily living), and working on his swallow and speech. He has been saying "hi" and "Good morning to Dr. Dubiel when she rounds on him in the morning. Krissy and I got to have a playful day with Jared in the afternoon on Thursday (pictures to capture).
