I'M JARED...

Jared, Uncle J, Trigger... all names Jared is called by his friends and family. He is an old soul but very much a kid at heart! He loved being an uncle to his niece and nephews, spending time with our families on the weekends and just hanging out with friends. When Jared wasn't at work, driving an 18 wheeler, delivering food to restaurants you could find him playing disc golf, playing what he calls "ball golf, " (regular golf), and of course riding his motorcycle.

We love live music, and don't be fooled Jared knows all kinds of music, but his favorites are Jam Bands such as the Grateful Dead, Widespread Panic, Umphrey's McGee, Moe and the String Cheese incident to EDM artists like Bassnectar, Krewella, Big Gigantic and Snails.

If you give him a choice for vacation, Jared will always pick the mountains, he loves the snow, and is an excellent snowboarder! We are dog lovers, those are our kind of children, rather than the human kind.

Jared is that guy that everyone loves, he has this force around him that makes him easy to talk to and just delightful to be around, he likes to have a good time and just take life one day at a time, as he always says "surrender to the flow."

ALL THE INFO

How We Got Here

On Sunday afternoon, October 31st, Jared went out for a motorcycle ride, it was warm and sunny and no wind, perfect riding conditions. He took a route up North that he drives all the time, that brings him through Denton and Aubrey and back towards our house. He was traveling on a back highway when a young man failed to yield at a stop sign and pulled out in front of Jared and other vehicles. Jared was unable to stop in time and hit the small SUV. Jared was traveling at about 55-60 miles per hour when he made impact with the vehicle.

Several witnesses stopped to help render aid to Jared. One of which was a pastor near our home and started performing CPR until the paramedics arrived on scene.

Jared was then care flighted to Medical City Plano. There we spent 2 weeks in the trauma ICU, a few surgeries performed, one of which was a craniotomy to help relieve the swelling and pressure. Here is where the hard conversations were had, the one thing that was not hard was deciding to fight for Jared. As most of his family and the neuro care team had given up on his, his diagnosis was that he would be on a ventilator and a vegetable for the rest of his life, man were they wrong!

Once he became stable and extubated we then moved to an LTAC facility.

At the long term acute care facility, Jared made great strides, he was weened off the ventilator and breathing on his own.

Our next place where Jared began to make more progressions was at a skilled nursing facility where he received so much love and care from many of the staff. This was definitely the toughest time for me, him in a coma and a vegetative state for 6 months, very few visitors other than my family and friends, many many tears of now knowing and wondering if I had made the right call.

This was one of the most crucial parts in my opinion, he was surrounded by believers and people who just knew that God was healing him and that Jared would be ok. Here is where he had his awakening, after his cranioplasty surgery. Jared began to have a lot of movement and started responding to some commands. He began receiving some rehab and at just the right time God opened the door for him to be ready to move on to a neuro rehab program at Baylor in Dallas. Here is where the heavy lifting started Jared was participating in 3 hours of therapy a day. We have been so excited to witness the progress he has made.

After his 3 months at Baylor Institute for Rehabilitation, we have been blessed with the opportunity for him to receive double the amount of therapy. He continued his journey at PATE rehabilitation, they specialize in rehabbing patients with traumatic brain injuries and strokes. Here he received 6 hours of therapy a day, with occupational, physical and speech therapy. For 7 months he was inpatient, living on the premises and doing therapy there 30 hours a week.

We brought Jared home in March 2023, where he still attended a Day Neuro program at PATE.

We since then discharged from PATE in Anna, TX in November, and we are excited about the next strides in His journey at Center for Neuro Skills (CNS) in Irving. We continue to ask for prayers for time here at this new place and this may be a huge stepping stone for him to move even more mountains with progress and continue to get stronger!
